Utility relocation work is beginning for the Belmont Bridge Replacement project. Flagging operations will occur on Graves Street between 9th/Avon Street and Monticello Road as well as Monticello Road between Graves Street beginning on Monday, July 26 until Friday, July 30. Existing underground utilities are being located within the roadway so construction may begin on undergrounding existing overhead utilities the following week.
The construction in this area is being conducted by Caton Construction Group, Inc. for the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Public Works. The contractor is undergrounding electrical as well as telecommunication lines to accommodate the future pedestrian underpass under 9th/Avon Street between South Street and Monticello Road.
