Utility relocation work is beginning for the Belmont Bridge Replacement project. Flagging operations will occur on Monticello Road between Graves Street beginning on Monday, August 2nd until Friday, August 27th. An underground duct bank for private utilities(electrical and telecommunication) is being constructed. Steel plates will be used to cover completed sections at the end of each weekday. Each Friday, completed sections will be backfilled and patched with temporary pavement.
Construction is being conducted by Caton Construction Group, Inc. for the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Public Works. The contractor is undergrounding electrical as well as telecommunication lines to accommodate the future pedestrian underpass under 9th/Avon Street between South Street and Monticello Road.
