Public utility relocation has begun on Graves Street between Monticello Road and 9th/Avon Street, with flagging of traffic, from the evening of Sunday, October 10th to Thursday, October 14th between 7PM to 7AM.  Work will continue this week onto 9th/Avon Street which will restrict northbound vehicular travel to one lane between Graves Street and Levy Avenue.  Work and traffic will be monitored by onsite inspectors.   Pavement patching will be conducted at the end of the week.  No service interruptions are expected.  Nighttime lane closures are expected over the next several weeks as utility relocation continues onto Garrett Street.

Daytime work will begin on gas line relocation just south of the Old Avon and East South Street intersection before continuing down East South Street to Sixth Street SE.  Lane closures and flagging will be used as needed starting Wednesday, October 13th and extending into next week until completion.  Please pay attention to construction signage and flaggers as the work zone shifts from Old Avon Street onto East South Street as work progresses.

Monticello Road between Levy Avenue and Graves Street will be closed to through traffic starting Tuesday, October 12th to Friday, October 15th during the daytime hours of 7AM to 5PM.  Dominion Energy will be establishing two new utility poles and will begin their work of relocating overhead lines to the new poles.  Dominion Energy workers will ensure access is maintained to residents’ homes as needed.  Service interruptions are expected to be minimal as power is transferred to the new lines.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project area and access to private parcels will be accommodated.

Construction is being conducted by Caton Construction Group, Inc. for the City of Charlottesville’s Department of Public Works. The contractor is undergrounding electrical as well as telecommunication lines to accommodate the future pedestrian underpass under 9th/Avon Street between South Street and Monticello Road and maintain service to neighboring parcels.

Work zone is posted at 25 MPH – please drive carefully with phones down.
